  • Wooden Printing Block

Wood carving is a technique used by artisans since the 15th century India. It is a complete manual task with intricate details for decorative purposes. The artisans conceptualize designs onto the wooden piece using chisels & hammers. These wooden blocks are made in Sheesham or Indian teak wood. These wooden blocks are soaked & proofed in mustard oil to prevent cracking in dry weather.

  • Hand Printing

The wooden blocks are used to create unique designs & patterns by dipping them in vegetable dyes. These are then stamped on organic cloth such as cotton, silk etc. Making this art perfect, requires skilled craftmanship & years of experience for printing yards of cloth in a few days.

  • Dyeing & Drying

Basic dyes are sourced from parts of plants like leaves, barks, flowers, seeds, roots & fruits. Other sources include minerals such as Prussian Blue, Red Ochre & Ultramarine Blue. These are mixed to get complex colors, which are then used by the printer for producing the final design. Once the fabric is printed it is dried in shade first, then, it is sent to the washers during which the fabric loses the excess color. Washing the cloth makes it softer and ready to use. Thereafter, it is dried once more and can be used in making clothes, linen, etc.
